Resources for Thespy Success

The Educational Theatre Association Excellence Awards, or Thespys, offers opportunities for students around the world to showcase their skills in Acting, Musical Theatre, Theatre Technology, and Short Film.  There are over 18 events students have the opportunity to compete in.  Students who compete at the Iowa Thespian Festival have the chance to qualify to compete for scholarships and other awards through the EDTA Thespy awards.

General Rules and Need to Knows

Iowa Thespians follows the International Thespian Excellence Awards (Thespy) guidelines.  Those guidelines can be found below.  Iowa Thespians should qualify at the Iowa State Thespian Festival November 12-13 2021 at the University of Northern Iowa.

​Our mission is to honor student achievement in theatre and enrich the educational experience, to support educators by providing professional development, networking opportunities, resources, and recognition, and to influence public opinion and policymakers that theatre education is essential and builds life skills.

We are passionate about theatre education and believe all students should have access to theatre curriculum which provides critical life skills for educational and career success in the 21st century.
