Festival Registration

The Iowa Thespian Festival welcomes...
  • Thespians and their troupe directors
  • Non-member high school theatre students with their teachers
  • Guest artists
Students must register with a school to participate in the Iowa Thespian Festival.

Follow this step-by-step guide to ensure you complete each part of the registration process. If you have questions about registering, contact Aaron Dean at adean@dbqschools.org

REGISTRATION DEADLINE:
OCTOBER 18, 2022

Registration Process

Step 1: Download the Iowa Thespian Festival Guide and share with your students. 
  • You are encouraged to look through the guide to learn about all festival opportunities
  • The guide notes the events that troupe directors will need to register students for in advance through the online registration system, as well as additional applications that students must submit by the registration deadline. 

Step 2: Have students/parents sign and turn in the Festival Consent Form
  • All students will need to have a completed form in order to participate in the festival
  • Completed consent forms should be mailed with your check to Leslie LaCorte at the address below

​Step 3: Troupe Director completes online registration through EdTA's Community Hub
  • This is the same portal Troupe Directors use to manage troupe business (such as inducting new Thespians)
  • You can check out full instructions on how to register your students within the Community Hub below
  • Troupe directors should register students for all festival opportunities. Double check that you registering your students for any of the following - 
    • ​Thespy performances
    • Studio Theatre or Mainstage performances 
    • Student Leadership Lunch
    • Tech Challenge
    • College/Thespian Scholarship Auditions
    • State Thespian Officer Candidates
    • ImprovWorks

Step 4: Troupe Director or Students submit event applications in Open Water (if applicable)
  • Open Water applications will need to be submitted (by the student or Troupe Director) for participating in any of the following... 
    • ​Thespy Performances
    • College/Thespian Scholarship Auditions
    • State Thespian Officer Candidates
  • All applications in Open Water need to be submitted by October 18

Step 5: Recommend a student for the Michael Peitz Leadership Award (optional)
  • If you have a deserving student that demonstrates outstanding leadership skills, you are encouraged to recommend the student for the 2022 Michael Peitz Leadership Award

Step 6: Submit your online registration and payment​
  • Please mail one check for registration fees, including Thespy performances, Studio Theatre performances, scholarship auditions, etc. Check should be made payable to "IOWA THESPIANS." No purchase orders will be accepted.​
  • Mail registration materials and payment to: Leslie LaCorte, Davenport North High School, 626 W. 53rd Street, Davenport, Iowa 52806
  • You are not officially registered until online registration forms have been submitted and all fees have been paid. ​

Registration System Instructions

Festival Online Registration System
Before you begin registering, watch this step-by-step video:
If you have a student(s) that are attending festival with you, but that are not currently inducted into your troupe, watch this video for instructions on how to import a roster:
All chaperones will need to create an account in order for you to register them for festival. Watch this video for step-by-step instructions. You can send the video link to your chaperones to help them get set up. 
Registering Yourself
  • ​Troupe directors should begin the registration process by registering yourself
  • You will log in to your account on www.schooltheatre.org
  • On the Personal Snapshot page, click on "Upcoming Events"
  • View "Iowa Thespian Festival"
  • Click on "Register"
  • Select the "Register Myself" button and hit "Next"
  • Select the "Troupe Director" option and hit "Next"
  • Select the "Troupe Director Registration Fee ($0.00) and hit "Next"
  • Fill in the Event Questions and hit "Checkout"

Registering Students
  • The registration system is connected to EdTA's membership database. All students that you will be registering for festival will need to be included in this database
  • All current inducted Thespians will ALREADY be in this database
  • If you will be registering students not currently inducted into your troupe, you will need to add them to your troupe's database

  • If your students are included in your troupe's database, you can follow these directions to register them for festival - 
    • Select "Add Another Registration"
    • View "Iowa Thespian Festival"
    • Click on "Register"
    • Select "Register Someone Else"
    • Choose the student from your database and hit "Next"
    • Select "Attendee - Thespian Student" or "Attendee - Future Thespian" and hit "Next"
    • Select "Student Registration Fee" and any other events the student will be participating in

    • Fill in the Event Questions and hit "Checkout"

Registering Chaperones
  • Your adult chaperones will need to create an account with EdTA and add an affiliation to your troupe
    • Need help creating an account for chaperones? Watch the video above 
  • You can send your chaperones instructions on how to create an account here: How to Create an Account (Chaperones)
  • Once your chaperones have created an account, you will be able to see them on your registration database list
  • If your chaperones are included in your troupe's database, you can follow these directions to register them for festival - 
    • Select "Add Another Registration"
    • View "Iowa Thespian Festival"
    • Click on "Register"
    • Select "Register Someone Else"
    • Choose the adult chaperone from your database and hit "Next"
    • Select "Chaperones" from the list and hit "Next"
    • Fill in the Event Questions and hit "Checkout"

Registering Events
  • You will register your students individually for any optional events (Thespys, scholarship auditions, STO candidates, etc) in the online system
  • In addition, you or your student will need to submit an application in Open Water for:
    • ​Thespy performances
    • College/Thespian Scholarship Auditions
    • State Thespian Officer Candidates
  • IMPORTANT NOTE - when registering for a Duet or Group performance (for example, a Group Musical Theatre) in our online registration system - only register ONE of the students for the event
    • If you register each student for that group performance, the system will charge you $40 each time. 
    • Instead, just register ONE member of the group so that you will only be charged once
    • You will be able to submit the names of all performers for that Duet or Group performance in the Open Water application

Payment
  • When you are ready to finalize your registration, scroll down on the "Checkout" page to the payment type
  • If you wish to pay with credit card, you may select a saved payment OR pay with a new credit card
  • If you wish to pay with a purchase order, select the "Pay With Purchase Order" button
    • Input a Purchase Order Number in the box that pops up
  • After selecting payment, hit the "Submit" button

Fees and Charges
  • Troupe Director - FREE (only 1)
  • Students - $100
  • Chaperones - $75

Add-On Activities
  • Individual Thespy Performances - $20 
  • Duet/Group Thespy Performances - $40
  • Tech Challenge - $40
  • College/Thespian Scholarship - $20
  • Studio Theatre adjudication - $60 per school
