Studio Theatre Performances
Studio Theatre performances are an opportunity for schools to showcase a one-act or a cutting of a full-length show at the Iowa Thespian Festival. There is no prerequisite to perform a studio show, but a studio performance is required before applying to bring a mainstage performance. If you have a question about Studio Theatre performances, please contact Kristi Peck at kristi.peck@tipton.k12.ia.us.
Virtual Performance Information At this year's virtual festival, pre-recorded studio theatre performances will be presented virtually on Friday, March 12. All festival participants will have the opportunity to view the virtual studio theatre performances. In addition, adjudicators will complete a digital evaluation form for each performance, and a chapter select performance will be announced at closing ceremonies. Performance Submission Guidelines The goal of the studio theatre showcase is to highlight performances from around the state in the "blackbox" style, meaning minimal sets, effects, etc. All applicants should consider the following guidelines for performances -
Note on Rights/Royalties Troupes must secure written permission from the publisher for presentation at the Festival. Because of the virtual format, performance rights must allow for a pre-recorded performance to be aired at a specific time. In addition, you will want to ensure the video you submit is of high enough audio and video quality for audiences to be able to appreciate your students' work. Video Submissions The submission window for studio theatre performances will open on January 15 and will remain open until February 28, 2021. Recordings will be shared with Kristi Peck at kristi.peck@tipton.k12.ia.us. If you have questions about the best method for submitting your video, please contact Kristi for more information. |
