There are two scholarship competitions at the 2011 Thespian Festival: The Iowa Thespian Scholarship and College Scholarship. Both are only available to seniors and both take place on Friday, November 11.

The ITCB realizes that nothing is free. However, we can relieve a bit of the financial burden for hard-working students dedicated to the communicative arts by offering senior scholarship auditions. Up to three $1,000 scholarships will be available. Scholarships are offered for performers, technicians, and theatre educators. No one is permitted to sit-in on the senior scholarship audition. Directors should inform other students, parents, and chaperones that they will not be permitted to watch any of the senior scholarship auditions.

All Applicants
Complete the form correctly, attach your resume, and give it to your Troupe Director with the $15 fee so the forms can be sent with the festival registration forms no later than October 5, 2011.

  • Incomplete applications (missing or incomplete forms) will not be scheduled for an audition time.
  • You must be a current inducted member of an active Iowa Thespian Troupe in good standing and register for the festival in order to audition.
  • Students applying for Thespian scholarships will be evaluated on their audition performance/technical portfolio, essay (for the theatre educator applicants only), interview, and their involvement with their Thespian troupe at their school. Download more information about scholarship criteria here.

Theatre Educator Scholarship Applicants
Students applying for the theatre educator scholarship must also attach to the audition form an essay addressing two of the following three topics. The paper must be typed single-spaced and on one side only of an 8 1/2” x 11” sheet of white paper.

  1. Describe your most inspirational teacher.
  2. Describe why you want to be a theatre teacher.
  3. Describe what you feel is the most important issue facing high school theatre today.

It is advised that theatre educator applicants either perform or present a technical portfolio; however, judges will not penalize theatre educator applicants if the student chooses not to perform.
